What Is PCA Night?

PCA Night is a monthly gathering built around gospel-oriented camaraderie and Christian fellowship. It's an evening to step away from the routine, sit across the table from your brothers, and enjoy each other's company over cards, cigars, and a good drink.

We play no-limit Texas Hold'em — the world's most popular poker game. Two hole cards, five community cards, tables of up to nine. All skill levels are welcome and the atmosphere is friendly, not competitive.

There will be cigars to share and spirits to sip — bourbon, scotch, beer, whatever suits you. Whether you're a seasoned player or have never touched a deck, you'll fit right in.

No pros, no pressure — just good men, good conversation, and a good time.

How to Play Texas Hold'em

Never played before? No worries. Here's everything you need to know to hold your own at the table.

🎯 The Objective

Win chips by either having the best five-card hand at showdown, or by making everyone else fold before that. You'll use any combination of your two private "hole" cards and the five shared "community" cards on the board.

📋 Game Flow

  1. The Deal — Each player receives two cards face-down (your "hole cards"). Only you can see them.
  2. Pre-Flop — The first round of betting. The two players to the left of the dealer post the small blind and big blind (forced bets to get the action going). Everyone else decides: call, raise, or fold.
  3. The Flop — Three community cards are dealt face-up in the center. Another round of betting.
  4. The Turn — A fourth community card is dealt. Another round of betting.
  5. The River — The fifth and final community card is dealt. Last round of betting.
  6. Showdown — If two or more players remain, cards are revealed. Best five-card hand wins the pot.

🤚 Betting Actions

  • Check — Pass the action to the next player (only if no one has bet yet in the round).
  • Bet — Put chips into the pot.
  • Call — Match the current bet to stay in the hand.
  • Raise — Increase the current bet. All other players must at least match your raise to continue.
  • Fold — Surrender your cards and sit out the rest of the hand. You lose any chips you've already put in.
  • All-In — Push all your remaining chips into the pot. You can still win, but only up to the amount you put in from each other player.

💡 Quick Tips for New Players

  • Position matters — Acting later in a round gives you more information about what others are doing.
  • Don't play every hand — Patience is a virtue. Fold weak starting hands and wait for good spots.
  • Watch the board — Pay attention to possible straights and flushes that the community cards might complete.
  • Manage your chips — Don't blow your stack on a marginal hand early on.
  • It's a friendly game — Have fun, ask questions, and enjoy the evening. No one expects you to be a pro.

  • The dealer button rotates clockwise each hand.
  • Blinds and buy-in will be announced at the start of the event.
  • String bets are not allowed — declare your action clearly.
  • Cards speak — the best hand wins at showdown regardless of what was said.
  • Be respectful, have fun, and keep the trash talk friendly.
